Nahhas: wage raise agreement is "possible”

Economy Minister Nicolas Nahhas told Voice of Lebanon radio station that the wage raise agreement between PM Najib Mikati and the head of the General Labor Confederation (GLC) Ghassan Ghosn “is possible”.

“If implemented at a suitable time, the decision to raise wages will bear its desirable fruits, even if it does not win the consent of all parties”, Nahhas said.

Nahhas said that wage raise should be beneficial to all workers, adding that the heated debates taking place within the cabinet to discuss the wage raise were similar to those around the social policy issue.

“Such decisions cannot be based on assumptions rather than facts”, Nahhas added.

Nahhas deemed the project put forth by Labor Minister Charbel Nahhas unworthy of being called a plan; rather, a launching pad to settle the issue of free medical care for all Lebanese.
