Jumblatt bemoans formation of Syrian paramilitary forces

A fresh formation of paramilitary forces by the Syrian regime drew sharp rebuke on the part of the Head of National Struggle Front, MP Walid Jumblatt, who described such a step as "subversive and destructive to what was left of war-ravaged Syria".

"Once again, the Syrian regime presents a new model of its unremitting attempts to ignite civil war among the Syrians," Jumblatt told Al-Anbaa electronic newspaper.

He said that building the so-called forces aimed at realizing the regime's goals and officially opening the horizons of civil war, especially as the chances of an international settlement in Syria are at best slim.

Lambasting these forces as a "militia," Jumblatt renewed calls upon Arab Druze to join the 22-month-old uprising against President Bashar Assad.
