Bassil from Dar al-Fatwa: Border control can be as effective as controlling sea migration

Head of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), Gebran Bassil, emphasized on Tuesday that administrative decentralization is a shared demand among all Lebanese citizens, and regional development cannot be achieved without it. He also stated that the Credit Fund is essential for the country's prosperity.
After a meeting with Lebanon's Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abdel Latif Derian, at Dar Al-Fatwa, Bassil expressed his hope that they could work together with all Lebanese to achieve the presidential election. He stressed that a president without genuine support will not succeed, and if they cannot reach an agreement, they will resort to parliamentary elections.
On another note, Bassil highlighted that the pain of displacement has affected all Lebanese.
“Today, there is no justification for Syrian refugees coming to Lebanon. The closure of illegal border crossings is purely driven by economic motives,” he added.
Bassil also pointed out that the security agencies can prevent further displacement, apprehend smuggling networks, calling for resolute action to halt the influx of Syrian refugees by suggesting that border control can be as effective as controlling sea migration.
