Khazen: Hezbollah’s behavior has changed since 2006

Change and Reform bloc MP Farid Elias el-Khazen said Friday that Bulgaria’s accusation of Hezbollah is “an unclear, ambiguous political accusation,” pointing out that there is European skepticism over the seriousness of the case. Bulgaria accused the Lebanese Resistance Movement Hezbollah on Tuesday of carrying out a bomb attack on a bus in the Black Sea city of Burgas that killed five Israeli tourists last July.

Khazen told LBCI that Hezbollah’s behavior has changed since the war of 2006, pointing out that it is an armed resistance party which aims to counter Israel.

Khazen considered that while Lebanon is the country which is the most exposed to strife in the region, none of the main Lebanese parties are seeking to instigate strife since it would serve no one’s interest. “However, some radical and Takfeeri groups in Lebanon are protected whether directly or indirectly by Lebanese officials,” he said.

On another note, Khazen said that the LAF did not “break into” the town of Arsal, but were simply fulfilling their duty and chasing a wanted person. “If we do not punish the perpetrators behind the Arsal incident, we would be 'preparing' for the collapse of the state.”

Khazen pointed out that the anarchy prevailing in Lebanon is the responsibility of the Lebanese state, adding that incidents will multiply if the situation is not addressed in a timely manner.
