President Sleiman: To adopt administrative decentralization

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman said that the problem of poverty is exacerbating in many countries amid the global financial crisis. “The economy should not be at the service of politicians”, he said.

President Sleiman chaired the launching ceremony of the national program to support the poorest households organized by the Ministry of Social Affairs at the House of Lawyers-Aadlieh.

“This program provides social assistance for the poorest households, while making sure that this assistance does not encourage them not to work”, he said.

Sleiman said he is seeking to adopt administrative decentralization, “as a reform step”. He reiterated the necessity to approve the implementation decrees of the Law for offshore oil exploration to strengthen the confidence in Lebanon’s economy.
