LAF arrest 11 persons in Arsal, residents call for a protest

The Lebanese Armed Forces deployed in the Bekaa border town of Arsal arrested on Thursday and Friday morning 11 persons, 4 of which were identified as Syrian nationals.

The armed forces seized in their possession a number of weapons and military ammunition.The arrest operation took place in the town’s outskirts near the Lebanese-Syrian borders.

The detainees were handed over to the concerned authorities while the LAF pursued its operations to arrest other suspects.

This as, Arsal residents called for a protest after the Friday prayers to demand the reduction of security measures.

On February 1st 2013, gunmen attacked an army patrol in Arsal, causing the death of Major Pierre Bachaalany and Adjutant Ibrahim Zahraman.

Following the incident, the LAF enhanced security measures and set checkpoints on all of the town’s entrances, inspecting each car that enters the village.
