Bilateral talks: Minister Fayad and US Envoy Hochstein discuss energy strategies

The Minister of Energy and Water in the caretaker government, Walid Fayad, met with the US envoy Amos Hochstein in the lounge of Beirut-Rafic Al Hariri International Airport, according to a prearranged appointment set by the embassy, in response to the request of the senior US advisor, as Minister Fayad was leaving for Paris on a working visit.

The US Ambassador, Lisa Johnson, and Hochstein's team attended the meeting, which lasted for about 45 minutes, during which the latest developments on the local scene were discussed.

Discussions were held on the possibility of importing gas from Egypt and electricity from Jordan through Syria, as well as the supportive role that the US envoy could play in this regard.

Hochstein emphasized the necessity of establishing security, ending the war, and the potential stability that could result from it on all fronts, with positive implications in several areas, such as increasing electrical supply and more significant commitment to the issue of gas and oil exploration in Lebanon.

Minister Fayad affirmed the necessity of finding a solution that preserves Lebanon's sovereignty and regional stability.

In addition, Fayad wished Hochstein success in his visit and tour with other officials in Lebanon today.

After the meeting, Minister Fayad departed for Paris on a working visit to participate in a conference on gas and oil organized by the Middle East Energy and Climate Organization (OMec) under the title: "The Role of Gas in the Mediterranean Energy Transition."
