Nahhas to LBCI: I oppose wage adjustment, but will uphold my responsibility

Labor Minister Charbel Nahhas said on Wednesday that he will send to the Shura Council within two days the wage adjustment decree which will be signed later by the concerned officials.

Nahhas told Nharkom Saiid TV show “I oppose the agreement reached by the cabinet; however it is my duty to prepare the decree as agreed.”

“The wage increase will not include those earning more than 800,000 LBP per month”, he added, hoping that the cabinet will reconsider the matter.

Commenting on the state budget, Nahhas said “What was discussed in Tuesday’s cabinet session was a preliminary approach and it was agreed that each ministry will submit its proposal within two weeks. It is expected that the Finance Ministry will open discussions later on.”

Nahhas added that funding the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) is one in a long line of items included in the budget, but certainly not the most pressing.
