This is the end of the dictator: A picture marred with humiliation; a head wedged between the feet of disgruntled avengers. Muammar Gaddafi left the world without a friend to turn to in the moment of escape, unlike Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.        

He failed to maintain an army that could wheel him out of the hospital and into the courthouse to be tried on a gurney like Hosni Mubarak. There were no occupying powers to take him out of the hole and hand him over to his enemies to later be hanged like Saddam Hussein. This time, the executioner fell into the hands of his victims who, in turn, became his executioners. He was killed just as he ruled.        

42 years ago, a junior officer dreamt of attaining a rank and role unlike anyone held before him. He confiscated the lives and dreams of Libyans and used them to fuel conspiracies and plots in the Arab world, Africa, Latin America and even in Western Europe. Therefore, this squalid end befits the King of African Kings and the President of all Presidents.         

The blood covering his bullet-riddled body is warmly embracing the souls of the 270 victims who perished in the Pan Am flight that exploded over Lockerbie in 1988 as well as the 170 victims of the French UTA flight bombing over Niger in 1989; It eases the suffering of Imam Musa Sadr and his companions and wipes away the tears of mothers, wives and children of the slain and missing Libyan opposition figures; It also consoles thousands of rebels in Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt and Chad who believed in the Colonel’s slogans and his green book, leaving them vulnerable to his financial handouts and calls for mobilization. This is the final tragedy of the Libyan tragedist.       

Many stories were woven around the way Gaddafi was killed. However, the final images confirmed that he fell victim to a conspiracy, betrayal or plan in the hands of the rebels who killed him in the heat of the moment and transferred his body from Sirte to Misrata. Pictures are worth a thousand words.
