Plumbly: Upcoming elections are a Lebanese internal affair

U.N. Special Coordinator to Lebanon Derek Plumbly met on Thursday with Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain el Tineh and tackled the latest developments in Lebanon and the region.

Following the meeting, Plumbly asserted that he discussed with Berri the developments pertaining to the implementation of UNSCR 1701 in light of the UN Secretary General's last report, as well as the solid commitment of the UN in Lebanon's stability and security.

Plumbly noted that discussions also tackled the preparations of the upcoming parliamentary elections and the efforts exerted by Speaker Berri to reach consensus among all Lebanese factions.

He added that the next parliamentary elections are a Lebanese internal affair, however noted that the international community is keen on seeing them held successfully.

On another note, Berri met with MP Georges Adwan who asserted that the country's stability lies in finding a new electoral law.

Adwan noted that time is ticking and all Lebanese parties must hasten the passing of new electoral law, adding that other parties must not be put under pressure by inking the electoral bodies' decree.
