Mahfoud: We won the wage scale battle but Mikati won his hometown's affection

Head of the private school teachers association Nehme Mahfoud expressed hope that Prime Minster Najib Mikati would back down from his decision to resign as Cabinet leader, and this to make certain amendments to the series of ranks and salaries referred to parliament one day ahead of the outgoing premiere’s announcement.

Mahfoud stressed following his meeting with Mikati on Monday that they had “won the battle, while Mikati regained the affection of his native city of Tripoli.”

The Union Coordinating Committee alongside the private and public schools association had launched an open ended strike on February 19th, 2013 after making repeated called on Mikati to validate the new salary scale and consequently refer it to Parliament for ratification. Cabinet referred the wage scale on Thursday 21st of March, 2013.
