President Sleiman meets with Gen. Ashraf Rifi

President Michel Sleiman held a meeting on Thursday with the outgoing Prime Minister Najib Mikati in Baabda Palace in order to pave the way for consultations with parliamentary blocs to name a new premier, noting that Mikati left without making any statement.

In this regard, the Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) Major General Ashraf Rifi arrived to Baabda Palace to also meet with President Sleiman.

Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced the cabinet's resignation on Friday March 22 after talks deadlocked over the extension of Internal Security Forces chief Major General Ashraf Riff's mandate and the formation of an Election Supervisory Committee.
