Maura Connelly praises steps undertaken by President Sleiman

        
US ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly held a meeting on Wednesday with President Michel Sleiman whereby she discussed the bilateral relations, the political and security situation as well as the developments in the region.        

In this regard, Connelly praised the step undertaken by President Sleiman to name Tammam Salam as prime minister, depicting it as “a positive step” in the context of efforts exerted to form a new government.         

In addition, Connelly shed light on the stance voiced by Washington that says “the Lebanese people deserve a government that reflects its aspirations and works on fostering the stability, sovereignty and independence of the country”, noting that Lebanon should honor its international commitments.         

The US ambassador to Lebanon stressed that the democracy in Lebanon is “an achievement of a great value and all the countries in the region should follow suit”, adding that the US praises the “exceptional efforts exerted by Sleiman and other leaders” in a bid to hold the upcoming parliamentary elections on their constitutional due date.
