MP Aoun: Separation of deputies and ministers is unconstitutional

Following the Change and Reform Bloc's weekly meeting, MP Michel Aoun said that MP Ibrahim Kanaan briefed deputies on the municipal funds dossier adding that a meeting for the Finance and Budget Committee will be held on Thursday to discuss this issue.            

In regards to the elections, MP Aoun said Tuesday that the electoral law will settle the conflict adding that the law does not separate between a deputy and a minister.                 

"The Prime Minister cannot dictate whether or not a minister can run for the upcoming parliamentary elections; let them respect the constitution," MP Aoun said.                    

Aoun added that they presented the Orthodox Gathering's electoral draft and called on those who rejected this draft to submit an alternative.                

As for the Parliament's subcommittee, Aoun called on members representing the parties to agree on a new electoral law.                         

Regarding the file of the cabinet, Aoun asked: "How can we form a cabinet to hold the upcoming parliamentary elections in the absence of an electoral law?"           

As for the visit of Caretaker Energy Minister Gebran Bassil to the Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awad Asiri, Aoun said that the visit was customary, adding that it aims at building bridges with other countries since the Free Patriotic Movement is open to all sides.
