MP Paula Yacoubian slams sectarian chants, backs government’s decision on arms

MP Paula Yacoubian criticized the use of sectarian slogans during recent street demonstrations, saying the issue lies not just in the chant itself, but in the mindset that replaces national belonging with sectarian loyalty.

In a post on X, she warned against mobilizing people as “human shields” for a sectarian agenda that, in her words, is tearing apart the state and society.

Yacoubian called such slogans “an admission of intellectual and political bankruptcy,” saying they mask the absence of reason and legitimate arguments.

She voiced her full support for Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s position and the government’s decision to limit weapons to state institutions and legitimate security forces.
