FPM leader sends message to countries backing armed groups in Syria

      
Head of Change and Reform bloc, MP Michel Aoun sent on Monday a message to the countries backing the "armed groups" in Syria, calling for the release of the Orthodox Bishops Boulos Yaziji and Youhanna Ibrahim who were kidnapped in Aleppo last month.        

In this context, MP Aoun pointed out that the situation in Syria has become "alarming", adding that heinous crimes, perpetrated by gunmen claiming to fight in the name of freedom, targeted 'peaceful' Christian clerics who are absolutely not involved in the armed conflict in their country, but to the contrary, they have always called for peace in Syria.        

The FPM leader  added that "it was not the only attack against Christian clerics", noting that the two Bishops were holding negotiations in a bid to release two other abductees, Armenian Catholic Father Michel Kayyal and Greek Orthodox Father Maher Mahfouz, who were kidnapped on February 14.         

In this regard, MP Aoun said that such acts do not represent any kind of struggle for freedom, pointing out that they are deemed as "terrorist acts" committed by "terrorists"  against civilians.            

"I still believe that politics should honor the moral standards in order to serve the interest of humanity in general," MP Aoun said.
