Mikati: The policy of dissociation did not prevent us from addressing Syrian file

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati stressed on Thursday that the government has cooperated with the parliament, the Central Bank of Lebanon, and all the concerned bodies in a bid to revive the economic sector within the confines of a comprehensive socio-economic project prepared by the cabinet.

In his speech during the Arab Economic Forum at Phoenicia Hotel, Mikati pointed out that the government prioritized the file of oil and gas reserves in Lebanon and set forth an all-encompassing plan to kick off the gas exploration process, adding that international companies rushed to submit their offers in terms of investments.

On another note, Mikati said that Lebanon remained unbowed in light of all conflicts taking place in the region, mainly in Syria, regardless of political wranglings and said: "The government managed to spare Lebanon the repercussions of the Syrian crisis through the policy of dissociation".

In this context, the Caretaker PM added that the aforementioned policy did not prevent the government from addressing the file of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, however added that "the cabinet became incapable of meeting the growing needs and demands of the refugees'".

Separately, Mikati stressed that Arab countries need to stand against all economic obstacles, calling to shield the Arab economic sector from the dire repercussions of political crises across the region.
