Mikati: By not objecting to private STL funding, isn’t Hezbollah tacitly approving it?

PM Najib Mikati said that he had no reservations when it comes to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) because everyone wants truth and justice.  

“Hezbollah has reservations on the tribunal, but left it to the constitutional institutions”, he said.      

Asked on Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s statement saying “if someone wants to fund the tribunal, let him do it from his own pockets”, Mikati told BBC channel: “When someone tells us to fund the tribunal from our own pockets, doesn’t that mean that he approves of the funding?      

Mikati stressed that his stance is firm on the necessity of fully respecting international resolutions.      

On whether he will resign if the STL is not funded, he said that any decision he might take will be related to the situation then. “I seek to ensure Lebanon’s stability, and I am not planning on resigning; I did not accept this position to resign, but to promote peace and unity in Lebanon”.     

Mikati said he is open to any suggestion that facilitates for Lebanon to fulfill its commitments, adding “if the issue of the STL is not put on the table, I will raise it through constitutional institutions”.      

On the abduction of Syrian opposition figures in Lebanon, Mikati stressed his support for the Judiciary that is doing its job perfectly in this regard.       

On the other hand, Mikati said he will meet with British PM David Cameron next Monday in London to discuss the situation in the Middle East, mainly the Palestinian question and the bilateral relations and files including the UK’s aid to Lebanon, on the administrative, technical and military levels.
