Aoun, Sisi discuss post-ceasefire steps, Egypt backs Lebanon’s push to end escalation

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun spoke by phone with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon following the ceasefire.

During the call, Sisi voiced support for the steps taken by Aoun to halt military escalation, particularly direct bilateral negotiations aimed at ending hostilities, securing the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas in southern Lebanon, and deploying the Lebanese army along the southern border.

He also backed broader efforts to extend the Lebanese state’s authority across all its territory.

Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s solidarity with the Lebanese people and expressed Cairo’s readiness to assist in alleviating their suffering.

Aoun, in turn, thanked the Egyptian president for his supportive stance, describing it as a reflection of the deep fraternal ties between the two countries. He also praised Egypt’s role in supporting Lebanon’s efforts and expressed gratitude for recent humanitarian aid shipments sent by Egypt, as well as additional assistance planned in the coming period.

Both leaders agreed to remain in contact to follow up on ongoing developments.
