President Aoun: Israel’s deliberate targeting of journalists aims to conceal its actions in Lebanon

Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun expressed sorrow over the killing of journalist Amal Khalil, who was killed in an Israeli strike that targeted the town of Al-Tiri on Wednesday, and in which journalist Zeinab Faraj was also injured.

Aoun said Israel’s repeated targeting of journalists is deliberate and aims to conceal what he described as its “aggressive violations” against Lebanon. He added that such acts constitute crimes against humanity punishable under international laws and norms, and should prompt international intervention to put an end to them.

The president extended his condolences to Khalil’s family, as well as to the staff of Al-Akhbar newspaper and the broader Lebanese and Arab media community, saying she joins other journalists killed while covering events in southern Lebanon.

He also wished a speedy recovery to Zeinab Faraj, who was wounded in the same attack.
