Gulf states say may place Hezbollah on terrorist list

Al-Rai Kuwaiti newspaper quoted on Thursday highly ranked diplomats as saying that Gulf states will consider putting Hezbollah on their terrorist list.

In this context, the newspaper added that Bahrain will ask foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council to discuss "placing Hezbollah on the terror list" at a meeting in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

Gulf states did not precise whether they referred to the party as a whole or only its military wing which is involved in the fighting with the Syrian troops against the Syrian rebels in Syria's al-Qusayr.

The ministers of the GCC will also tackle "the Iranian interference" in the Syrian crisis, mainly spy rings.

The GCC includes Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

Kuwait already convicted several Iranians for operating a spy ring for Iran, while Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have said they dismantled networks also working for Iran.

On Monday, Bahrain banned opposition groups from contacting Hezbollah, one month after labeling the party a "terrorist organization."

Hezbollah and Iran are close allies of Syrian President Bachar al-Assad.

More than 94,000 people have died since the uprising erupted in Syria two years ago and turned into an armed conflict.
