Patriarch Rai: Reasons behind extending parliament’s mandate are 'unjustified'

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai said on Sunday that the reasons behind extending the parliament’s mandate were unjustified and based on personal benefits.

The Patriarch expressed his regret that deputies did not adhere to the demand of Maronite Bishops who called for reaching a new electoral law before extending the parliament’s mandate.

Rai expressed during the homily his hope that the Constitutional Council studies the appeal raised against extending the parliament’s mandate.

Patriarch Rai called on the parliament to reconsider its decision and ratify a new electoral that serves the Lebanese people in order to hold the elections at the soonest time possible.
