Siniora denounces Hezbollah’s involvement in Syrian crisis, calls for formation of 'homogeneous' cabinet

Head of the Future Bloc Fouad Siniora denounced on Monday Hezbollah’s participation in the Syrian crisis as well as the involvement of 'other citizens', considering that the "regime of President Bashar Assad has lost legitimacy."                   

During a speech delivered from Sidon’s municipality, Siniora said that the majority of deputies agreed on extending the mandate of the parliament, stressing that this step was not previously studied; however, “it was reached due to the current security situation in Lebanon”.              

“We are committed to forging a new electoral law that serves all Lebanese people,” Siniora added.          

As for the cabinet, Siniora called for the formation of a homogeneous government whose members call "stand for peace instead of calling for war."

On Friday the 31st of May, 97 parliamentarians ratified a law to extend the current parliament's mandate until the 20th of November 2014. The session was held amid the discontent of several civil society groups who gathered before Nejmeh Square pelting lawmakers with tomatoes in protest of the decision.            

The Free Patriotic Movement boycotted the session, announcing that they would file an appeal to the Constitutional Council. Similarly, President Michel Sleiman also vowed to fight the said law, citing its unconstitutionality as the main reason behind his move.
