Syrian chopper launches 6 missiles on Arsal, Sleiman calls for respecting Lebanon's sovereignty

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman denounced on Wednesday the Syrian air raids on Arsal, and called for respecting Lebanon's sovereignty and sparing the towns and their residents the dangers that surround.

Earlier, a Syrian chopper launched 6 missiles on the region of Kherbet Daoud in the northeastern town of Arsal, with reports stating that warplanes targeted a house owned by a member of the al-Hjairi family.

Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) reported that two rockets hit the house but only one exploded. The raid did not cause any casualties.

This attack comes in light of the Syrian Army's announcement whereby it declared complete control over the al-Qusayr area, a strategic post of rebels fighting to oust President Bashar Assad.

On April 11, five people were injured in a Syrian air raid on the outskirts of the region of Arsal.

More recently, three Lebanese Armed Forces' soldiers were killed on the 28th of May after unknown assailants opened fire at them at 3 am dawn in the region of Wadi Hmeid on the outskirts of Arsal, North Eastern Lebanon.

The Syrian government, battling a two-year-old revolt against four decades of rule by the Assad family, has warned it may strike at Syrian rebels taking refuge across the frontier.

But many citizens fear their country is increasingly at risk of being dragged into the neighboring conflict, in which more than 70,000 people have been killed.
