MP Sami Gemayel: Some Lebanese parties are drifting Lebanon toward civil war

Kataeb MP Sami Gemayel met on Thursday with head of the Independence movement Michel Moawad.

Following the meeting, MP Gemayel said that some Lebanese parties "are drifting Lebanon toward a civil war."

For his part, Michel Moawad noted the necessity of carrying out a mass demonstration in protest of "the interference of some Lebanese parties in the Syrian conflict," he said in reference to Hezbollah.

The Syrian conflict started in March 2011 as peaceful protests against Syrian President Bachar Assad's regime.

It turned into a civil war after some opposition supporters took up arms to fight a harsh government crackdown on dissent.

Many local leaders fear the spillover of the Syrian crisis into neighboring Lebanon.
