[VIDEO] 2-Year-Old Boy Shoots Dead Mother In Supermarket

Veronica J. Rutledge, a mother who was shopping in a branch of Walmart with three other children earlier this week was shot dead by her two-year-old boy after he accidentally fired a gun he had found hidden in her purse as they browsed the store.

According to reports, the boy was sitting in the shopping trolley as the group walked through the electronics section when he shot the gun, fatally injuring his 29-year-old mother.

Police and medics rushed to the scene and attempted to save the mother, to no avail.

A spokesman for the Kootenai County Sheriff’s department said: "Preliminary investigation shows that the female was shopping with her two-year-old son and other family members.” 

"Her son was seated in the shopping cart and accessed the woman’s concealed weapon from her purse and discharged it, striking the victim."

Police confirmed Ms Rutledge did own a permit to carry a concealed weapon and said the shooting was a tragic accident.

It is understood Ms Rutledge was visiting family in Hayden, Idaho.

Her father-in-law told KREM-News the shooting was "tragic."

He added the family had "lost a beautiful, loving mother."

The store was closed for the day as forensic experts examined the scene.
