MPs apologize for skipping Bou Saab meeting: Sources to LBCI

Sources told LBCI that several parliamentary blocs, Sunni figures, independent MPs, and reformist lawmakers have apologized for not attending an informal meeting called by Deputy Parliament Speaker Elias Bou Saab at his office today.

Attendance is expected to be limited to the Amal–Hezbollah duo and a number of MPs aligned with them.

Notable absentees include: the National Moderation Bloc, the National Consensus Bloc, MPs Ashraf Rifi and Fouad Makhzoumi, as well as the Lebanese Forces, Kataeb Party, the Democratic Gathering, the Free Patriotic Movement, and several independent and reformist MPs.

Sources said the boycott reflects objections to holding the meeting at Bou Saab’s office, which some parties believe is meant to circumvent a planned Baabda meeting with the president. These groups also accuse Amal and Hezbollah of trying to revisit understandings reached in parliamentary committees, particularly regarding the issue of individuals who fled to Israel after 2000 and provisions linked to drugs.

Opponents argue that any change to these clauses would undermine the political compromise behind the draft general amnesty law.
