Have you ever wondered why you often feel a little bit more bloated and sluggish after a long flight?
Cruising in a pressurized cabin at 30,000 feet is not a particularly normal environment for humans to be in, it shows in many ways.
According to scientists, this grotty feeling we get after a long flight is caused by the high altitude that leads the gas in the human body to expand, which in turn causes bloating, and even an unpleasant bout of flatulence.
In order to avoid such feelings, there are some foods which are a lot better than others, and can reduce the unpleasant effects of that bloating.
Foods to avoid both before and during your flight:
- Baked beans
- Chickpeas
- Broccoli
- Cabbage
- Lentils
- Carbonated drinks
- Chewing gum
- Deep-fried and fatty foods
However, opt for the vegetarian option while on flight.
As for the drinks, try to avoid alcohol and caffeinated beverages and stick to water.
It is essential as well to drink at least 250ml of water while on board, since “cabin pressure and dry, recirculated air can zap moisture from your skin, but drinking plenty of water can help to keep your skin naturally hydrated,” according to scientists.
