The video below has captured the moment of moulting of a heterothele gabonensis, one of the tarantula family. Filmed in Oklahoma, USA on Friday September 16, the amazing process even shows the spider as the new legs travel through the old skin.
The pet arachnid, a mature male, is juddering and shaking as the film starts, then separates from its old body. It explains the process whereby tarantulas lie on their back and appear to be dead when they are ready to moult.
