French FM Valero praises Saudi King’s decision on women

The Spokesman for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bernard Valero said that the decision taken by Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz to give women the right to vote and stand for elections is a major advancement for the rights of women in Saudi society.

“This decision was taken in light of a reformist step that fulfills the Saudi society and youth’s aspirations”, Valero said.

The Saudi King announced Sunday that, starting from the next term, women will be given the right to run for municipal elections and to choose candidates; they will also be given the right to become members of the Shura Council.
