Japan vows diplomatic efforts to ensure passage of all vessels through Hormuz

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said on Thursday that she will continue all diplomatic efforts to ensure the passage of all vessels though the Strait of Hormuz.

Takaichi made the comment after phone talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Takaichi said that in the process of ensuring the safe passage of a Japanese-related vessel through the Strait of Hormuz, she personally appealed directly to the president.

On Tuesday, shipping data showed that Panama-flagged tanker Idemitsu Maru, carrying 2 million barrels of Saudi oil, crossed the Strait of Hormuz, becoming the first Japan-linked crude tanker to do so since the Iran war began.
