Obama remembers Saudi Prince Saud as skilled diplomat
President Barack Obama is sending condolences on behalf of the United States to the Saudi royal family following the death of Prince Saud al-Faisal.

Prince Saud was the world's longest-serving foreign minister and served 40 years in the post until his retirement this year. Saudi state-owned television announced his death but did not say how the 75-year-old died.

Obama says Prince Saud witnessed some of the region's most challenging periods. He says the prince consistently advanced the goals of peace.

The president says generations of U.S. diplomats benefited from the prince's "thoughtful perspective, charisma and poise." He's calling Prince Saud a skilled diplomat who pursued Mideast stability and was committed to U.S.-Saudi relations.

Obama says the prince's legacy will be remembered around the world.
