PM Salam from New York: Lebanon refugee crisis must be eased

Prime Minister Tammam Salam warned on Saturday that the Syrian refugee crisis represents an obstacle to Lebanon’s development, saying that the international response to this issue was not at the required level.”

PM Tammam Salam reiterated, during The United Nations Sustainable Development Summit that took place in New York, the need to put an end to armed conflicts, terrorism and sectarian violence in a bid to guarantee security and stability.

“Lebanon is bearing a heavy burden imposed by the Syrians that are being forcibly displaced from their country,” Premier Salam said.

Earlier today, PM Salam held talks with Jordanian King Abdullah II and King Felipe VI of Spain, at the sidelines of UN General Assembly conference in New York, where they discussed the latest regional developments and their repercussions on Lebanon.

Separately, Salam met with US Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration, Anne Richard, at his New York residence in the presence of Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil.
