FM Bassil: Extremist ideologies prevent solution for presidential vacuum

Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil stressed that Lebanon is witnessing a process through which the Lebanese people is being replaced by people from other nationalities, Syrians, Palestinians and others.

Commenting on the presidential vacuum and the possibility of reaching a settlement amid terrorist threats, Bassil said that “it is impossible to reach any solution while extremist ideologies still exist,” noting that once they agree on a political settlement, Lebanon will lose its most basic values of Muslim-Christian coexistence and diversity.

During a meeting he held with the Lebanese expatriates in the city of Danbury in the US State of Connecticut, the minister stressed the importance of respecting and developing the Lebanese Constitution, while preserving the rights of both Muslims and Christians.

On another note, he said that the law pertaining to restoring the Lebanese nationality has reached its final steps at the Parliament, denouncing the attempts aiming at preventing the approval of this law.
