Turkey resumes international flights

Turkish Airlines and it's budget carrier Anadolu Jet resumed on Thursday (June 11) some of their international flights to Germany, Britain and Netherlands only carrying passengers with approved documents.

The outbound flights could only carry passengers with EU citizenship, residence permit or certain visas, a spokesman for Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen airport told Reuters.

On Thursday, first passengers travelling to London, Dusseldorf and Amsterdam with Anadolu Jet formed long queues at Sabiha Gokcen airport. One of them, Amal Hallak, a stranded passenger returning to Britain, said she was anxious about returning, having checked everyday for flights after her initial return flight was cancelled.

Leisure airline SunExpress, a joint venture of Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa said it also started flights to Germany and Switzerland upon civil aviation authority permits.

Budget airlines, Pegasus said it will start operating two-way flights to certain destinations in Germany as of June 13 and will carry certain passengers with necessary documents or permits, Pegasus said on its website.

The COVID-19 disease has killed more than 4,700 and infected more than 170,000 in Turkey, though new cases and deaths are sharply down and President Tayyip Erdogan's government says the outbreak is under control.
