US Senate makes first move on bipartisan gun safety bill

Members of the Democratic and Republican parties in the US Senate prepared Tuesday a bill that would impose limited restrictions on firearms possession, in a reform step unprecedented in decades although it does not meet the minimum requirements of President Joe Biden in this field.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said the bipartisan bill is progress and will save lives. While it's not exactly what we wanted, this legislation is absolutely urgently needed.

In a tweet, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy said: "This is the most important legislation against gun violence in nearly 30 years."

He pointed out that this bill "will save thousands of lives."
