Qatar: Reservations for accommodation during World Cup have not yet been completed

Executive director of the housing department at the Supreme Organizing Committee for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar Omar Al-Jaber confirmed on Tuesday that reservations in hotels and rooms for fans have not yet been completed, despite the fact that they may reach their peak in September.

While questions are asked about the number of rooms available in the small emirate during the tournament which runs from November 21 to December 18, Al-Jaber stated that "more than 250 thousand" reservations have been made.

He emphasized that "more than 100,000 rooms are currently available," but that this figure should eventually reach "130,000 or 140,000."

Fans usually book their own accommodations, but due to Qatar's small size and limited hotel capacity, most accommodations are reserved for ticket holders and managed by tournament organizers.

While the country had to build a large number of permanent and temporary housing facilities for the 2022 World Cup, Al-Jaber stated that 85 percent of these sites had been completed and that the last ones would be completed "at the end of August."

This as Qatar will be closed to visitors who do not hold match tickets, according to Al-Jaber, with 1.2 million tickets were sold after the first two sales phases.
