Israeli army strikes "military infrastructure" in Syria

In the early hours of Wednesday, the Israeli army announced that its fighter jets had conducted airstrikes on "military infrastructure" in Syria in response to missiles launched from that country towards the Israeli state on Tuesday.

The army stated in a press release that "Israeli military fighter jets targeted Syrian military infrastructure and artillery launchers in response to the missile launch from Syria towards Israel, on Tuesday."

An Israeli military spokesperson confirmed to AFP that the airstrikes specifically targeted locations within Syria.

Concerns are growing that the ongoing war between Israel and the Hamas movement could lead to broader regional disruptions and ignite wars in other areas, including the southern front of Lebanon, where daily clashes occur between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah.

On Sunday, Damascus and Aleppo's main airports in Syria were out of service due to simultaneous Israeli strikes, which also resulted in the deaths of two civilians, according to Syrian authorities.

This marked the second occasion that simultaneous Israeli airstrikes rendered these two airports non-operational since the onset of the war between Israel and Hamas in the besieged Gaza Strip two weeks ago.

Additionally, the Aleppo airport was targeted once again.

Since the beginning of the Syrian conflict in 2011, Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes in Syria, targeting Syrian regime positions, Iranian assets, and Hezbollah, among other targets.

The airstrikes have repeatedly caused damage to the Damascus and Aleppo airports, occasionally taking them out of service.
