Iran sets preconditions for talks on lasting peace with the US

A senior official told Reuters on Tuesday that Iran has set preconditions for talks on a lasting peace with the United States, including an immediate halt to attacks, guarantees that they will not recur, and compensation for damages.

The official added that Tehran rejects any ceasefire with the U.S. that is only temporary.

He said that any lasting peace agreement should allow Iran to impose fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which would vary depending on the type of vessel, its cargo, and surrounding circumstances.
