[VIDEO] This Is What A Sleeping Whale Looks Like!
Panga MX, a group of underwater photographers, says it captured earlier this year rare footage of the majestic marine mammal snoozing.    

“We encountered a sleeping humpback whale and managed to get an in-water encounter with her,” the group wrote on YouTube on the 10th of October.     

“This is a short clip of a 20 minute encounter showing her come up to breath and check us out," the group said.     

Unlike humans, humpback whales are conscious breathers, i.e. they have to remember to breathe, even while sleeping.      

It’s believed that these kinds of whales only shut off half of their brain at a time while sleeping, so that they would be alert enough to breathe, according to Animal Planet.     

A number of humpback whales have been spotted sleeping upside down (like the one shown in Panga MX’s video), while others have been documented sleeping horizontally.
