Rescuers overjoyed as cat emerges from quake rubble
A cat was was rescued from under the rubble of a demolished building on Monday (November 2), 76 hours since devastating quake hit the Turkish city of Izmir.

Since the earthquake struck, Turkish military's gendarmerie search and rescue teams have been carrying out not just human

but also animal rescues, including dogs, cats and even bunnies.

AFAD, Turkey's disaster management said the death toll had risen to 91 and a total of 994 people had been injured in Izmir.

Friday's earthquake, which the Istanbul-based Kandilli Institute said had a magnitude of 6.9, was centered in the Aegean Sea, northeast of Samos. There have since been nearly 1,200 aftershocks, AFAD said.

More than 3,500 tents and 13,000 beds have been supplied to provide temporary shelter in Turkey, and nearly 8,000 personnel and 25 rescue dogs were involved in rescue and relief work, according to AFAD.
