REPORT: Lebanese officials’ personal security costs millions of dollars per month

Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel explained in June 2013 that the security members in charge of protecting the officials must train on a monthly basis, noting that 'they have a unique culture'. He then stressed in a statement to ‘al-Akhbar’ Daily in July 2013 that the security members “are not servants.”

This as, following the withdrawal of the security members in charge of protecting the deputies, a chain of condemning reactions emerged among the officials who considered that the move’s timing is not appropriate.

This report will highlight the average rate of these security members’ wages and the number of these members which is supposed to be reappointed by the Directorate General of the Internal Security Forces.
