REPORT: Assange says Manning conviction an example of "dangerous national security extremism"

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said the conviction of US Army Private Bradley Manning "is a dangerous precedent and an example of national security extremism."

Manning was acquitted of aiding the enemy, the most serious charge he faced, but was convicted of espionage, theft and other charges in a courthouse in Forte Meade, Maryland.

In an interview at the Ecuadorean Embassy in London on Tuesday, Assange labeled the decision as "short sighted" and said it must be reversed immediately.

The Wikileaks founder, who has been inside Ecuador's Embassy for more than a year to escape extradition to Sweden on sex crimes allegations, said that Manning never stood a chance of receiving a fair trial.
