REPORT: Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr throughout the world

The sight of the crescent moon of the new month of Shawwal, or Eid al-Fitr, is based on two origins: astronomical and legitimate.

The first day of the Eid is the day (beginning at sunset) of the first sighting of the crescent moon shortly after sunset.

Since the sight of the crescent moon varies from one country to another or even from one sect to another, Thursday was announced to be the first day of the holiday in some countries, while the others celebrated on Friday. Among those countries, the Islamic Republic of Iran where the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on the Islamic world to keep on supporting Palestine, noting that the peace talks expected to take place on the 14th of August are prejudice to the Palestinians and will be held at their expense.
