REPORT: Investigations in Lebanon's latest security breach continue

Investigators in the blast that took place on Thursday in the region of Roueis ruled out on Monday the possibility that the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber.

Investigators said that no new information was found on the vehicle used in the blast, a reported black BMW, adding that investigations are underway to collect all new possible leads.

A large explosion rocked a stronghold of the Hezbollah group south of the Lebanese capital Thursday August 15th, killing 27 people and wounding more than 336 other while setting several cars on fire and causing heavy damage.

As for the al-Naameh file, the General Security said that it is investigating with the arrested suspects, while the Lebanese army is pursuing fugitive Mohamad al-Ahmad on suspicion of being involved in the explosives found in the car in the said region.

In this context, the Lebanese Armed Forces intelligence unit arrested two men, one Lebanese citizen and one Syrian national involved in the plot.

The Lebanese Armed Forces inspected on Sunday evening cars parked near the residence of arrested suspect Mohamad al-Ahmad in the al-Naameh region.

This as the Lebanese General Security interrogated on Sunday morning four people suspected to be involved in the case of the vehicle loaded with explosives found on Saturday.

In information made available to LBCI, the four suspects may be involved in preparing other car bombs.

On Saturday, 4 TNT boxes, 50 kg of explosives and a wireless device were found in an Audi car parked near the municipality of al-Naameh, south of Beirut.

The security apparatuses immediately rushed to the scene while security sources confirmed that the car was loaded with 100 kg of TNT.

Separately, the LAF raided the house of Ahmad Taha on suspicion of being involved in the Bir el-Abed explosion, while media reports said Hezbollah had made the arrest; a claim denied by the party.

A large explosion rocked a stronghold of the Hezbollah group south of the Lebanese capital Tuesday July 9th, setting several cars on fire and causing an estimated 53 injuries, security officials said.

The powerful blast came as many among Lebanon's Shiites began observing the holy month of Ramadan, and is the first explosion to hit the area in years as a direct fallout of the civil war raging in neighboring Syria.
