REPORT: Daouq urges authorities to take legal measures against Charles Ayoub

Caretaker Information Minister Walid Daouq sent on Monday letters to the Head of the Press Syndicate Mohammed al-Baalbaki and the head of the Lebanese Journalists Union Elias Aoun, calling on them to take the necessary legal measures against the al-Diyar Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Charles Ayoub, after the latter launched accusations and insults against caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati in an article published in al-Diyar on the 8th of September 2013.

Daouq said that “the content of Ayoub’s article goes beyond freedom of expression, reaching the lowest levels of journalism and even yellow press”.

The caretaker minister stressed that the newspapers, TV channels and radio stations should not become “platforms to insult others, whether they were civilians or officials.”

While following up on the said case, Daouq called caretaker Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi and informed him of the content of the articles published by Charles Ayoub, urging him to implement appropriate decisions in order to preserve the rights of citizens.
