REPORT: Abducted pharmacist Wissam al-Khatib released

Pharmacist Wissam al-Khatib who was kidnapped in the eastern Zahle district around two weeks ago has been released, the state-run National News Agency said Tuesday.

The agency added that al-Khatib was set free in his hometown of Kfarzabad in the central Bekaa valley around 4:00 am.

On the 29th of September, NNA reported that unknown armed men kidnapped a pharmacist on Sunday morning in the city of Zahle.

Wissam al-Khatib was abducted while he was opening his pharmacy located on the main road of the town of Karak, the agency said.

On Monday the 30th of September, the kidnappers of al-Khatib demanded a ransom of $1 Million US in exchange for his release.

Al-Khatib reportedly escaped an attempt to kidnap him a month ago.
