REPORT: Security Forces inspect the Roumieh prison

Members of Security Forces arrived on Thursday to the Rouimieh prison and inspected the building B using sniffer dogs.

Sources told LBCI that the inspection is linked to the case of Charbel Chalita who is accused of murdering Roland Chbeir.

Two weeks ago, security sources told LBCI that investigations were launched over a security personal attempting to smuggle 150 grams of explosive material inside a sandwich into the Roumieh prison.

Sources added that the explosives were intended to be delivered to prisoner Charbel Chalita, adding that such materials used to be delivered to the Roumieh prison, mainly to Fatah al-Islam prisoners.

State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr interrogated Charbel Chalita, while security forces inspected his cell.

On the 21st of November 2012, Examining Magistrate Judge Ziad Makna demanded in his indictment the death penalty against the killer of 22-year-old Roland Chbeir, who was murdered on October 28 by his friend.

Judge Makna accused Charbel Chalita of committing a premeditated crime.

Chalita had confessed earlier of committing the crime for financial reasons.

Chbeir went missing on October 24 after Chalita lured his friend to an empty area in Jbeil on allegations that he wanted to sell him a piece of land, then he shot him twice in the back.

The killer had even attended the victim's funeral in Fidar where he sat with Chbeir's family members.

Internal Security Forces found the hunting rifle that Chalita used to carry out his crime, which he borrowed from a friend, in addition to Chbeir's mobile phone and blood-soaked clothes.
