The number of refugees who fled Syria since the conflict started in mid-march 2011 accounts for 20% of the Lebanese population, according to the latest figures of United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
This figure includes refugees registered with the United Nations whereas the Lebanese authorities estimated that there were tens of thousands of additional refugees who were not registered.
The report distributed by the UNHCR on Monday showed that the number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon rose to 842000 and that the number of Palestinian refugees who fled Syria rose to 52000 but data doesn't include statistics about the Palestinian refugees who are already present in Lebanon and whose number is estimated at about 350000.
According to UNHCR, Lebanon hosts 36 % of the Syrian refugees present in the area.
