REPORT: Financial General Prosecutor Judge charges MEAS company with negligence

Financial General Prosecutor Judge Ali Ibrahim charged on Thursday MEAS company with negligence and vandalism in the case of Airport road floods.

He also referred the case to the First Military Investigating Judge in Mount Lebanon Riad Abou Ghayda.

This comes as Financial General Prosecutor Judge Ali Ibrahim listened  to the testimony of caretaker Finance Minister Mohammed Safadi over the exchange of accusations between him and caretaker Public Works Minister Ghazi Aridi, the state-run National News Agency reported.     

The agency added that the prosecutor will also question two other people linked to the case.      

Following the session, Safadi said all relevant issues were discussed, stressing that he answered all questions and submitted documents.

"There won't be another session," he said.         

Caretaker Public Works Minister Ghazi Aridi, who resigned on Monday, had accused also MEAS company, which is entrusted of maintaining the airport tunnel, of failing to carry out its tasks.

However, the company denied the allegations saying that it cleaned the tunnel's sewers.

Aridi's accusations came after rainwater caused floods in Beirut streets, leaving thousands of motorists stranded for hours.

Safadi denied the accusations saying that the finance ministry was responsible for the failure to perform maintenance on sewage networks.
